Sea Cucumbers, or Holothuria, the name of a group of sea animals, belonging to the same branch of starfishes, sea urchins and sea lilies. They are covered with a tough, leathery skin which is perforated with holes, through which the foot-tentacles protrude. The animals are capable of contracting and extending themselves to several times their ordinary length, and they will reproduce to an extraordinary degree parts of the body which are cut away or destroyed. They abound along the eastern coast of Asia, and some species are edible.
